Chocolate is a girl's best friend

This is February.  The month of flowers and chocolate.
I love roses. I love chocolate.
Ahh yes, chocolate- a woman's best friend in time of need.
Its our go to remedy.
When you're in a "mood".

Any mood, You're worried, tired, overstressed, embarrassed, euphoric, the list goes on..........
What do you need? Chocolate!!
One bite of the rich brown stuff and a dark moment turns to sunshine.

Honesty here...

Did the kids ever say, "How come you told us we can't have sugar and we found a candy bar in your purse?" Yes, we think to ourselves, it's there for emergencies. When our daughters grow up and have kids of their own they'll understand!

The effect of chocolate on women is a phenomenon. I often wondered why. (For those of you who by some freak accident of nature don't like chocolate- take your pretzels and go, this is not for you.)

Right, Left and Everything In Between

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of it.
With just a few days to go until inauguration, the tension in the air seems to be revving up instead of winding down.

After over a year (maybe more?) of a brutal campaign, we mortals need down time from dirty politics.
But no, we are headed for more protests and pity fests, noxious tweets and vile retorts as we zoom into the finish line.

Or is it the beginning of the end?

Whether you are Trumper or Trump dumper, of course you know you're right. Election stand offs broke apart families and made workplace water coolers a  war zone.

And there are those who had to hide behind a mask because everyone around them was on the other side.

Moments of "lighten up" have been few and far between.

So, if you haven't seen this yet, Enjoy!!

The walls of Jerusalem were breached again

Today was a fast day, the tenth of Teves commemerating the sad day when the walls of Jerusalem were breached by the Romans.
I woke this morning in a cranky mood. Just knowing that I would start the day without a cup of coffee to jumpstart my brain set me off on the wrong foot.
OK- its a short fast. How many days do I barely eat until 4. But my beloved cup of morning joe....
And then I opened my phone to this:

THE CHANUKAH CLOTHESPIN MENORAH TUTORIAL

I love Chanukah. The family moments around the menorah, the chanukah parties, the dreidel games, the taste and smell of hot, sizzling latkes, powdery sufganiot, and of course as a lover of all things chocolate- milk chocolate chanukah coins.
Ok, there was one thing I never liked- Chanukah vacation. Ladies admit it. For those of us who live in the frozen north, its dreadful. Every outing involves snowsuits, boots, runny noses, long lines (the whole world has vacation!) and endless snacks, diapers, and drinks.
And then there are the cozy moments at home. You've already baked your third batch of chanukah cookies, watched endless Uncle Moishe videos and now it's time to be a real mom and do a...... PROJECT!
Since I was never a person who could magically transform an empty milk carton into an adorable tzedaka box, I always turned to the expert for help - Morah Tami Schultz (AKA my little sister, but fondly known for two generations of parents and children as  "Morah Tami".)

I love dictionaries. I love words. But listless has me stumped.
Webster's New Dictionary defines this as "indifferent because of illness or dejection". Well Mr. Webster, you and I will have to agree to disagree. I feel "listless" when I look at my kitchen counter and I can't find my list!( or lists) i.e better check living room, dining room table, purse, etc.
You see, I am a list maker.

The Mystery of the Other Sock

Whatever happened to the other sock?
Did you flee from the dryer and race down the block?
Or maybe you're still crumpled in my old yellow croc?
All my worry for you, you'll gleefully mock
As you flyaway south with the missing sock flock

I am a jewelry artist who loves anything needle arts, a little photography, learning french
( I have a long way to go!) rainbows, and of course the color teal and chocolate.
As the mother of over a dozen children and their wonderful spouses; more grandchildren than you can count on your hands 6 times, a baby boomer whose hubby just entered the medicare years  and a daughter to an aging parent, I wanted to share the mishaps, memories, and miraculous moments of raising a large family. We have a saying in the Hecht clan, " Its all an adventure". So welcome to my blog. We'll share and compare what worked and what we can do better. We'll even discover a few new life hacks( forget the " 20 ways to use a ball jar", they crack and you can never find the lids!), and help each other move through the stages of growing as women with a little more grace and humor.
